Kylian Mbappe will not be participating in the Olympic Games in Paris, but will be supporting France as a fan. France’s Under-23 coach excluded the Real Madrid forward from the squad for the Games. Mbappe had expressed his ambition to play in the tournament, but respected the decision of his new club, as players involved in the European Championship or Copa America were not allowed to play in the Olympics. Mbappe will be joining a new team in September and wished the French team success in winning the gold medal. The Olympic men’s football tournament coincides with Real Madrid’s pre-season tour in the United States. The club decided that players involved in the Euro 2024 quarter-finals or beyond would not participate in their pre-season tour. Mbappe stated that he understood and accepted his club’s position.
